01
Restorative Dentistry After a Dental Filling

Today

  • Wait until the numbness has completely worn off before chewing.
  • Start with comfortable foods and chew carefully.
  • Some short-term sensitivity to cold, heat or pressure can be normal.

Continue at Home

  • Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste.
  • Floss normally and keep the area clean.
  • Avoid repeatedly testing the filling with very hard foods.
Call Toothistan if:
  • Your tooth feels too high or touches before your other teeth.
  • Pain is strong, spontaneous or getting worse.
  • Sensitivity does not gradually settle.
  • The filling chips, cracks or falls out.
02
Endodontic Treatment After Root Canal Treatment

Mild tenderness when biting, a slightly different feeling in the tooth and some soreness around the treated area can occur for a few days.

Protect the Treated Tooth

  • Avoid hard or sticky foods on the treated tooth until the final restoration or crown is fitted.
  • Brush and floss normally, while being gentle around the area.
  • If you have a temporary filling, avoid heavy biting on that tooth.
  • Attend your crown or final-restoration appointment on time.
An unfinished or unprotected root-canal-treated tooth can be more vulnerable to fracture or reinfection.
Call Toothistan if:
  • Pain or swelling is severe or increasing.
  • Your bite feels high.
  • The temporary filling comes out.
  • The tooth or temporary crown breaks.
  • Your original symptoms return.
03
Restorative Dentistry After a Crown, Bridge, Inlay or Veneer

If You Have a Temporary Restoration

  • Avoid hard, crunchy and sticky foods on that side.
  • Brush gently around the temporary restoration.
  • When flossing, slide the floss out from the side instead of pulling it upwards.
  • If it comes off, keep it safely and contact Toothistan.
  • Never use household glue to put it back.

After the Final Restoration

  • Mild gum tenderness or temperature sensitivity may occur initially.
  • Brush twice daily and clean between your teeth every day.
  • For bridges, use the floss threader or interdental aid recommended by your dentist.
  • Avoid ice, pens, nutshells and other very hard objects.
Call Toothistan if:
  • Your bite feels uneven.
  • The restoration feels loose.
  • Food repeatedly gets trapped.
  • Your gum stays painful or swollen.
  • Sensitivity continues or becomes worse.
04
Preventive & Gum Care After Scaling, Polishing or Deep Cleaning

Your gums may feel tender and your teeth may be temporarily sensitive. Slight bleeding during brushing can happen while inflamed gums begin to recover.

For Comfortable Healing

  • Brush gently but thoroughly with a soft toothbrush.
  • Continue cleaning between your teeth using the technique shown by your dentist or hygienist.
  • If your teeth feel sensitive, avoid very hot, cold, spicy or acidic foods for the rest of the day.
  • Use desensitising toothpaste or mouthwash only if advised.
  • If local anaesthesia was used, wait for normal feeling before chewing.
Call Toothistan if:
  • Bleeding is heavy or does not settle.
  • Pain or swelling is increasing.
  • Sensitivity remains difficult to manage.
Healthy gums need maintenance. Professional cleaning works best when combined with daily home care and regular dental reviews.
05
Cosmetic Dentistry After Teeth Whitening

For the First 24–48 Hours

  • Limit strongly coloured foods and drinks such as tea, coffee, red wine, cola and dark sauces.
  • Avoid tobacco and paan.
  • If your teeth are sensitive, avoid very hot, cold or acidic foods and drinks.
  • Never use extra whitening gel or wear trays longer than prescribed.

Managing Sensitivity

  • Temporary tooth sensitivity can occur.
  • Mild gum whitening or irritation can also happen.
  • Use the sensitivity toothpaste or gel recommended by your dentist.
  • If sensitivity becomes uncomfortable, pause home whitening and contact Toothistan before restarting.

Keep Your Smile Brighter

  • Brush twice daily and clean between your teeth.
  • Arrange professional cleaning as recommended.
  • Rinse with water after drinks that can stain your teeth.
Call Toothistan if:
  • You develop strong or lingering pain.
  • Gum irritation is significant.
  • You are unsure how much whitening gel to use or how long to wear your trays.
06
Oral Surgery After a Simple Tooth Extraction

First 24 Hours — Protect the Blood Clot

  • Bite firmly on the gauze for the time advised by your dentist.
  • A little pink saliva can be normal. Avoid repeatedly checking the socket.
  • Do not rinse forcefully, spit repeatedly, use a straw or touch the socket with your tongue or fingers.
  • Choose cool or lukewarm soft foods and chew away from the extraction area.
  • Avoid hot food and drinks, alcohol, smoking, tobacco and vigorous exercise.
  • Rest with your head slightly elevated.

From the Next Day

  • Brush your other teeth normally.
  • Clean carefully near the extraction site.
  • Use gentle warm salt-water rinses after meals if your dentist has advised them.
  • Continue soft foods and gradually return to your normal diet as comfort improves.

If Bleeding Starts Again

Place clean, slightly damp gauze over the socket and bite with steady pressure for 30 minutes while sitting upright. Avoid repeatedly removing the gauze to check the area.

Call Toothistan if:
  • Pain suddenly becomes worse 3–5 days later, especially with bad breath or taste.
  • Heavy bleeding continues.
  • Swelling keeps increasing after the expected early healing period.
  • You develop fever, pus or difficulty swallowing.
07
Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery After Wisdom Tooth or Surgical Tooth Removal

Follow the tooth-extraction instructions above and add these additional precautions for surgical recovery.

What Can Be Normal?

  • Swelling, bruising and jaw stiffness can occur.
  • Opening your mouth may be difficult for a few days.
  • Swelling often becomes more noticeable during the first 2–3 days before it begins to settle.
  • Stitches may feel unusual. Do not pull or play with them.

Reduce Swelling and Discomfort

  • Use a cold pack on the outside of your face during the first day if advised.
  • Rest with your head elevated.
  • Eat nourishing soft foods and drink enough water without using a straw.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise until your surgeon says it is safe.
Contact Toothistan promptly if:
  • Pain becomes much worse after initially improving.
  • You notice a persistent foul taste or smell.
  • Bleeding does not stop with pressure.
  • Swelling is rapidly increasing.
  • You develop fever or difficulty breathing or swallowing.
  • Numbness of the lip, chin or tongue continues beyond the period explained by your surgeon.
08
Implant Dentistry After Dental Implant Surgery

First 24 Hours

  • Do not rinse forcefully, spit repeatedly, use a straw or disturb the surgical area.
  • Choose cool or lukewarm soft foods and chew away from the implant.
  • Avoid alcohol, smoking, tobacco and vigorous exercise.
  • Use a cold pack and keep your head elevated if advised.

Caring for the Surgical Site

  • Continue cleaning the rest of your mouth.
  • Do not brush directly over the surgical site until your dentist tells you to start.
  • Use chlorhexidine or another prescribed mouthwash exactly as directed.
  • Do not repeatedly pull your cheek or lip to inspect the stitches.
  • Do not wear a removable denture over the implant unless your dentist has approved it.

Protect Your Implant

  • Avoid chewing hard food directly over the implant or temporary tooth.
  • Never test whether the implant is moving.
  • Attend every review and maintenance appointment.

Call Toothistan if:
  • The implant, healing cap or temporary tooth feels loose.
  • Pain or swelling is increasing.
  • Bleeding remains active.
  • You develop fever, pus or a persistent unpleasant taste.
09
Advanced Implant Treatment After Immediate-Load Implants or Fixed Temporary Teeth

Your new teeth may look complete straight away, but the implants underneath are still healing. Protecting them during this period is extremely important.

The Golden Rule: Soft Food and a Gentle Bite

  • Follow the soft-food period prescribed by your implantologist.
  • Do not bite directly into hard foods with temporary teeth.
  • Cut food into small pieces and chew slowly.
  • Do not test the bridge by clenching, tapping or trying hard foods.
  • Wear your night guard exactly as advised.

Cleaning

  • During early healing, clean only in the way demonstrated by your dental team.
  • Once cleared, clean around and beneath the bridge every day.
  • Use the brush, floss or water-flosser setting recommended for you.
Call Toothistan immediately if:
  • The temporary bridge becomes loose, cracks or changes position.
  • Your bite suddenly feels different.
  • An implant area becomes painful, swollen or starts discharging.
10
Implant Preparation After Bone Grafting or Ridge Augmentation

Protect the Graft

  • Do not touch, press or repeatedly inspect the grafted area.
  • Do not pull your lip or cheek to look at the stitches.
  • Avoid chewing on the grafted side.
  • Follow the soft-food instructions provided by your dentist.
  • Do not brush directly over the graft until instructed.
  • Do not wear a denture or removable appliance over the graft unless it has been checked and approved.
  • Avoid smoking and tobacco because they can seriously interfere with healing.

What You May Notice

Some swelling, bruising or tenderness can be part of normal healing. Occasionally, a few small graft particles may be noticed. Do not disturb the area. Contact Toothistan if you are concerned.

Call Toothistan if:
  • The wound opens.
  • A large amount of graft material appears to be lost.
  • Pain or swelling is increasing.
  • Bleeding does not settle.
  • You develop fever, pus or a persistent foul taste.
11
Implant & Sinus Surgery After a Sinus Lift or Upper Back-Tooth Implant Surgery

Follow your implant or bone-graft instructions and take extra care to avoid creating pressure inside the sinus.

Sinus Precautions

  • Do not blow your nose for 2 weeks unless your surgeon gives you a different timeframe.
  • If you need to sneeze, keep your mouth open and do not pinch your nose.
  • Do not use a straw or create suction in your mouth.
  • Avoid smoking and tobacco.

  • Ask your surgeon before flying, diving or doing activities involving major pressure changes.

What May Be Normal?

  • Mild nasal stuffiness can occur.

  • Do not probe the nose or surgical area.
Call Toothistan promptly if:
  • Air or liquid seems to pass between your mouth and nose.
  • You have persistent nosebleeding.
  • Graft particles repeatedly come through your nose.
  • Sinus pain, swelling or discharge is increasing.
  • You develop fever or feel unwell.
12
Periodontal Care After Gum Surgery or a Gum Graft

Protect the Surgical Area

  • Do not brush, floss, press or pull at the treated area until your periodontist tells you to begin.
  • Do not lift your lip or cheek to inspect a graft.
  • If a protective dressing is present, leave it alone.
  • Contact Toothistan if the dressing comes off early or becomes uncomfortable.
  • Choose soft, cool or lukewarm foods and chew on the opposite side.
  • Avoid sharp, crunchy, spicy or very hot foods.
  • Avoid smoking, tobacco, alcohol and strenuous exercise during early healing.

Cleaning

  • Continue cleaning all untreated areas carefully.
  • Use any prescribed mouthwash exactly as instructed.
  • Attend your scheduled review and suture-removal appointment if required.
Call Toothistan if:
  • Bleeding does not settle with gentle pressure.
  • The dressing or graft appears displaced.
  • Pain or swelling is getting worse.
  • You develop fever, pus or a persistent foul taste.
13
Oral Surgery After an Oral Biopsy

On the Day of the Biopsy

  • Do not rinse forcefully or spit repeatedly.
  • Avoid hot food and drinks while the area remains numb.

From the Next Day

  • Brush gently and keep the rest of your mouth clean.
  • Use gentle warm salt-water rinses after meals if advised.
  • Do not pull at the stitches.
  • Dissolving stitches may loosen and fall away naturally as healing progresses.
  • Attend your biopsy-result appointment even if the area feels completely normal.

If Bleeding Starts

Apply firm, continuous pressure with clean gauze for 20–30 minutes while sitting upright. Contact Toothistan if active bleeding continues.

Call Toothistan if:
  • The wound opens.
  • Pain, swelling or bleeding is increasing.
  • You develop fever, pus or difficulty swallowing.
14
Removable Dentistry After Receiving New Dentures

Getting Used to Your Dentures

  • New dentures may initially feel bulky and may increase saliva.
  • Start with soft foods cut into small pieces.
  • Chew slowly and use both sides of your mouth.
  • Reading aloud can help your speech adjust.
  • Sore spots can occur, but never adjust or file the denture yourself.

Daily Denture Care

  • Remove and rinse your dentures after meals when possible.
  • Clean them with a denture brush or soft toothbrush.
  • Use a non-abrasive denture cleanser or mild soap.
  • Do not use ordinary abrasive toothpaste, bleach or very hot water.
  • Clean your gums, tongue and natural teeth every day.
  • Remove dentures at night so your gums can rest unless your dentist advises otherwise.
  • Keep acrylic dentures in clean water when they are out of your mouth.
Call Toothistan if:
  • You develop a sore spot.
  • The denture feels loose, unstable or painful.
  • The denture cracks or breaks.
  • You notice persistent redness, burning or an ulcer.
For an adjustment appointment, your dentist may ask you to wear the denture beforehand so the exact pressure area can be identified.

  • A bracket, band or appliance becomes loose.
  • An appliance is lost or broken.
  • You develop unusual swelling, severe pain or dental trauma.
16
Orthodontics Living With Clear Aligners

Daily Routine

  • Wear your aligners for the number of hours prescribed by your orthodontist.
  • Remove them for food and drinks other than plain water.
  • Brush and clean between your teeth before putting the aligners back whenever possible.
  • Clean aligners with cool or lukewarm water and the recommended cleanser.
  • Never use hot water because it can distort the trays.
  • Keep your aligners in their case rather than in tissue or a pocket.

Stay on Track

  • Change to the next aligner only on the day instructed.
  • Keep your previous set until your dentist confirms you no longer need it.
  • Use chewies or seating aids only as demonstrated by your orthodontic team.
Call Toothistan if:
  • An aligner is lost, cracked or distorted.
  • The aligner no longer seats fully.
  • An attachment comes off.
  • Pain is severe or localised rather than mild pressure.
